Fun in Year One!

The Year One children have had a wonderful start to the school year. They have settled into the class routines and enjoyed participating in specialist classes. In our classroom, the children are learning how to work collaboratively in groups and each week are learning new and exciting things about their peers.   Parent Information Evening Thank you to all the parents for attending the Parent Information Evening. Dear Parents,   Welcome to Room 28's class blog. We will be posting on here regularly to keep you up to date with things we are doing in class and any important messages!   It has truly been a fantastic start to Year One. We have been extremely busy settling into brand new routines, which we are continuing to master. The students have embraced all new learning tasks with such a positive attitude and are very keen to do their best. It has been an absolute pleasure to witness this and we know that we will have a great year together.   Just a reminder that this Friday will be dressing up for Australia Day which happened over the school holidays.   WEEK 4      TERM 4      -      BLOG POST Our learning this Term.   Literacy This term we are talking about Persuasive Text topics. We will be learning all about the different parts of a persuasive text over the next few weeks.   Persuasive writing presents an argument or point of view.   Term Four Super Scientist Challenge 2020   In Term Four, the Super Scientist challenge will be in the form of a research project. All students have been invited to research any scientific topic and present their information to the class in a short presentation (2 to 5 minutes) . Students are allowed to use posters, charts and ICT resources, such as MS PowerPoint to support their presentation.   The Year One class presentations will take place in Week 4 of Term 4, starting from Monday the 2 nd November.   Week 1, Term 4 –  Blog  Post         Our Learning this Term   Literacy   This term we are learning to write Persuasive Texts. Persuasive texts present an opinion about a particular topic. We will be focusing on the language of opinion which is used to express a point of view about a topic. So far, we have discussed how people can have different thoughts, feelings and points of view about the same situation. For example, you might think that reading is the best way to spend leisure time. A friend might think that reading is not the best way to spend leisure time, because they prefer playing sports.     Numeracy   In Numeracy, we are focusing on the concepts of Money, Addition and Subtraction (with and without regrouping) and Numbers to 100.   What an amazing and busy Term it has been! We have presented an assembly, celebrated Wattle Day, shared our love of reading with book week and participated in a fantastic sports carnival! Congratulations Room 28, you continue to shine as enthusiastic young learners.  Our Learning this Term   In Literacy, we have been constructing compound sentences using conjunctions. We have expanded our knowledge of punctuation and can now recognise commas, speech marks and when to use capital letters in our writing. In all our Big Write, we are focusing on writing narratives that include an orientation paragraph for the beginning that describes the characters and setting with a sizzling start, a middle which features the problem, a series of events and a solution, before concluding with an ending to remember, not just they all lived happily ever after.
